Candidate statement – Fiona Mansell
Dear members, I am seeking your support and ask that you please give me your vote by electing me to the position of National Assistant Secretary in the 2025 National Election.
Introduction: My career started as a seafarer for Interislander 13 years ago while solely raising 2 beautiful children.
During the years from 2016 of being a shipboard delegate I developed a passion to speak up for myself and my comrades.This led on to becoming more actively involved in MUNZ. My first senior role on the local Executive in 2018 was the Wellington Women’s Rep a role I thrived in. This led onto becoming the National Women’s Rep in 2019. In 2021 I was elected unopposed as the Assistant Branch Secretary. In March 2024 I was elected as the Wellington Branch Secretary and again unopposed November 2024, a challenging role I thoroughly enjoy.
Experience/Achievements/Goals:
- KR-IIL Pregnancy Policy 2019, enhanced Parental Policy 2023
- Negotiated better terms/conditions for members.
- Represented/supported members through disciplinaries/workplace issues.
- Developed/organised delegates training.
- Organised members to attend NZ/International conferences.
- Grown the membership (inductions, signing new members, visiting work places).
- Organising joint working parties.
- Involved with International Transport Federation-Ferry Roundtable, Ferry Task Force, Our Ferries Our Future Campaign.
Mission: To see this union grow, always has been, empower members through education/training, speak up for those that struggle, continue to support and represent you the members. To fight for our future. However, I’m keen to further my knowledge and understanding about the Maritime Union and our Industry, that is way I’m standing for this position.
